Producer prices in French industry: +0.3% in October
On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry increased by 0.3% in October 2017 (+0.5% in September). Year over year, they slowed down (+1.4% after +1.9% in September).
FRENCH MARKET: +0.2%
In October, French producer prices in industry for the French market increased again, but more moderately than in September (+0.2% after +0.4%). Prices rose or were stable or virtually stable in all the main industrial sectors except for food products.
Slowdown in prices of refined petroleum products
In October, the prices of refined petroleum products kept increasing after a sharp growth in September (+1.3% after +7.0%). The rise involved all refined petroleum products and especially gas oil. Year over year, prices of refined petroleum products slowed down (+6.4% after +16.3% in September).
Further increase in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In October, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose for the fifth month in a row (+0.7% after +0.3% in September). This increase came mainly from rises in the wholesale markets for electricity and gas. Year over year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose by 0.7%.
Further dip in food prices
In October, food prices decreased again (−0.3% after −0.2% in September). The dip was mainly due to sugar, related to the end of production quotas in Europe and, to a lesser extent, to processed meats. Year over year, food products slowed down (+1.0% after +1.6% in September).
Slight rise in prices of “other industrial products”
In October, the prices of “other industrial products” grew by 0.2%, as in September. The rise was mainly caused by basic metals and metallic products and by rubber and plastic products, following the raw material prices. Year over year, prices of “other industrial products” remained buoyant (+2.2% as in September).
FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.6%
In October, the producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets kept rising (+0.6% after +0.5% in September). This rise was mainly thanks to the sustained growth of prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water and, to a lesser extent, to higher prices of “other industrial products” and refined petroleum products. Year over year, export prices of industrial products kept growing (+1.4%).
Import price indices of industrial products: +0.3% in October
In October, the import prices of industrial products slowed down (+0.3% after +0.8%). Sharp increases of refined petroleum product and “other industrial product” were lessened by the declines in food prices and transport equipment prices. Year over year, import prices slowed down again (+1.9% after +2.5%).
