In October 2017, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores were stable over a month, after a downturn of 0.1% in September.
In October 2017, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores were stable over a month, after a downturn of 0.1% in September.
Excluding hyper and supermarkets, prices accelerated slightly (+0.2%) after a slowdown in September (+0.1% after +0.3% in August).
Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods were inchanged in October. They fell back by −0.1% in September after seven months of continuous slight rise.
Year on year, prices in hyper and supermarkets grew at the same rate than in September
Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets increased at the same rate than in September (+0.8%). The same is true in large and predominantly food stores (+0.8% year on year).
In the other kinds of stores, the dynamic of prices of frequently purchased goods were more marked than in large distributors, again: they rose by 1.8% year on year, as in September.
Considering all types of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods accelerated slightly: +0.9% year on year in October after +0.8% in the previous month. It has been the largest increase since June 2013.

Over a month, new drop in food prices in hyper and supermarkets
In October 2017, the prices of food (excluding fresh products) sold in hyper and supermarkets fell by 0.1%, for the second consecutive month. Year on year, they increased by 1.0%, as in September.
The slight fell in prices over a month resulted from downturn in prices of other food products, while prices in meat and in beverages were stable.
After a marked drop in September consecutive to a sharp acceleration in August, meat prices were unchanged in October. Year on year, they rose a little more strongly than in the previous month: +1.6% after +1.5% in August.
The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets were stable in October after a downturn by 0.1% in September. Year on year, they increased by 0.5%, as in the two previous months.
Stable in September, the prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) edged down in October ((0.1%) for the first time since February 2017. Year on year, their increase was the same as in the previous month (+1.0%).
Rebound in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets
The prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets rebounded in October (+0.2%) after a sharp downturn in September (−0.4%). So, year on year, the prices of these products dropped less than in the previous month: −0.2% after −0.3%.
