On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry declined again in April 2017 (−0.4% after −0.3% in February). Year over year, they grew by 3.3% (after +3.2%).
Producer prices in French industry: −0.4% in April
On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry declined again in April 2017 (−0.4% after −0.3% in February). Year over year, they grew by 3.3% (after +3.2%).
FRENCH MARKET: −0.6%
In April, French producer prices in industry for the French market went down again (−0.6% after −0.3%), due to the seasonal slowdown in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water. Conversely, prices of refined petroleum products bounced back and food prices and that of “other industrial products “ kept strengthening.
Rebound in prices of refined petroleum products
In April, the prices of refined petroleum products bounced back (+3.2% after −6.1%) in the wake of the petroleum price recover. The most significant price increases occurred for fuels (petrol fuel and gas oil). Year over year, refined petroleum product price rise remained strong (+33.5% after +34.3%).
Seasonnal downturn in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water declined, as each year in April (−4.0% in 2017), due to changeover to summer rates for electricity transport and, to a lesser extent, to the decreases in prices for electricity and gas trading. Year over year, the rise was alike to that of the previous month (+4.1% after +4.2%).
Slight strenghtening in food prices
In April, food prices strengthened slightly(+0.3% after +0.1%). Main rises occurred for processed and preserved meat and for prepared and preserved fruit and vegetable products. Year over year, food prices sped up again (+1.4% after +1.0%).
Further moderate increase in prices of “other industrial products”
In April, the prices of “other industrial products” kept rising at a moderate pace (+0.2% after +0.3%). The prices of basic metals and metallic products and that of chemical products continued to rise, driven by raw material prices. Prices of other products in this sector were stable or virtually stable.
FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.1%
The producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets were virtually stable in April (+0.1% after −0.5%). Price rises of “other indictrial products” and that of petroleum products were almost offset by decreases in the prices of food and of mining and quarrying products, energy and water. Export prices of other products were virtually stable. Year over year, export prices went up by 3.3% (after +3.1%).
Import price indices of industrial products: +0.1% in April
In April, the import prices of industrial products were virtually stable (−0.1% after −0.3%). Year over year, they were quite as buoyant as the previous month(+4.9% after +5.0%).
