In March 2017, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores barely increased (+0.1%) after three consecutive months of stability.

In March 2017, the prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores barely increased (+0.1%) after three consecutive months of stability.

Excluding hyper and supermarkets, the prices of frequently purchased goods grew too slightly (+0.1%), as in the previous month.

Considering all the kinds of stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods increased a little (+0.1%) after a stability in February.

Year on year, the prices in prices in hyper and supermarkets dropped more moderately than in February

Compared with the same month last year, the prices of frequently purchased goods sold in hyper and supermarkets fell more moderately than in February (−0,1 % after −0.3%). The decrease was also less marked in large and predominantly stores (−0,1 % after −0.3%).

Contrarily, the prices of frequently purchased goods continued to rise, at the same pace than in the three previous months (+1.1%).

Considering all stores, the prices of frequently purchased goods recovered slightly year on year (+0.1% after −0.1%).

Slight rise in food prices in hyper and supermarkets

In March 2017, the prices of food excluding fresh products sold in hyper and supermarkets went up slightly after three months of stability. Year on year, they were unchanged after thirteen months of decrease.

The slight month-on-month growth resulted by a rise in meat prices and beverages prices and from a small rebound in other food prices.

Unchanged in February, meat prices rose by 0.2% in March 2017. Year on year, they rose a little more than in the previous month (+0.4% after +0.3%).

The prices of beverages sold in hyper and supermarkets accelerated a little (+0.2% after +0.1% in February). Year on year, these prices were sharply more dynamic than in the previous month (+0.5% after +0.2%).

The prices of other food products (excluding fresh food) edged up (+0.1% after –0.1%). Year on year, the price fall was less pronounced than in February.

Further stability in the prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets

In March, the prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets were unchanged for the second month in a row. Year on year, they dropped by 0.4%, just slightly less than in February (–0.5%).
