In November 2016, the turnover rose in wholesale trade and business activities Turnover in the wholesale trade and business services - November 2016

In November 2016, the turnover picked up in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+2.2% after −0.1% in October). It recovered in real estate activities (+5,9% after −2,1%), gathered pace in business support (+1.2% after +0.3%), and bounced back in information and communication (+2.6% after −1.1%). It was virtually stable in transportation and storage (+0.1% after +4.2%).

In November, the turnover in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles picked up markedly (+2.2%) after a near stability in October. The turnover increased in all subsectors. It bounced back for wholesalers of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+4.7% after −2.4%), wholesalers of houselhold goods (+2.9% after −1.2%), and wholesalers of agricultural raw materials and live animals (+3.7% after −3.9%). It rose again for other specialised wholesalers (+1.8% after +2.9%), wholesalers of food, beverages and tobacco (+1.1% after +0.4%) and wholesalers on a fee or contract basis (+1.2% after +0.7%).

The turnover in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles rose over the last three months (+0.8% q-o-q) and year on year (+1.0% y-o-y).

The turnover in real estate activities bounced back considerably in November (+5.9%) after a marked fall in October (−2.1%). It rose sharply over the last three months (+2.8% q-o-q) and moderately over a year (+0.9% y-o-y).

In November, the turnover in business support activities accelerated (+1.2% after +0.3% in October). It recovered in professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.4% after −1.3%), particularly in activities of head offices and management consultancy (+1.9% after −0.8%). By contrast, it fell back drastically in scientific research and development (−8.8% after +3.0%).

The turnover in administrative and support service activities grew again (+0.9% after +2.3%). It went up particularly in rental and leasing activities (+2.0%), office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+0.7%), and employment activities (+0.9%).

The turnover in business support rose over the last three months (+1.1% q-o-q) and over a year (+2.6% y-o-y).

The turnover in information and communication picked up markedly in November (+2.6% after −1.1% in October). It increased notably in telecommunications (+3.5%), computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+1.9%), and motion picture, video and television programme production, sound recording and music publishing activities (+6.2%). By contrast, it fell back in programming and broadcasting activities (−4.0%).

The turnover in information and communication increased over the last three months (+0.5%) and sharply over the year (+3.7%).

In November, the turnover in transportation and storage was practically stable (+0.1%) after a sharp upturn in October (+4.2%). It fell back considerably in water transport (−11.6%), but recovered substantially in air transport (+9.7%) and postal and courier activities (+4.1%).

The turnover in transportation and storage decreased slightly over the last three months (−0.2% q-o-q) and over a year (−0.3% y-o-y).

The variation in the turnover for October 2016 has been revised downwards by 0.4 points in information and communication, by 0.3 points in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and by 0.1 points in business support. It has been revised upwards by 0.3 points in transportation and storage and remained unchanged in real estate activities.

These revisions are due to those of raw data (integration of late information, including changes of sector) and the update of the parameters used for the seasonal and working-day adjustment (SA-WDA).
