On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry were almost unchanged (-0.1%) following two monthly increases (+0.4% in June and in May). Year over year, they declined sharply (-3.1%).
Producer prices in French industry: −0.1% in July
On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry were almost unchanged (−0.1%) following two monthly increases (+0.4% in June and in May). Year over year, they declined sharply (−3.1%).
FRENCH MARKET: 0.0%
In July 2016, French producer prices in industry for the French market were stable. The fall in prices for refined petroleum products and for electrical and electronical equipments was offset by the rise in prices in other sectors.
Sharp downturn in prices for refined petroleum products
In July, prices for refined petroleum products fell back (−7.2% after four consecutive months of increase), following the decline in prices for crude oil. The fall is especially significant for gas oil and super unleaded fuels. Prices for refined petroleum products are much lower than a year earlier (−20.7%).
Prices for other energy products expanded
In July, prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water continued to grew (+0.8% in July as in June). The rise came mainly from gas, due to a further increase in prices on the international wholesale markets and, to a lesser extend, to higher regulated tariffs on 1st July.
Recover in food prices
In July, food prices recovered somewhat (+0.4%) following ten consecutive months of decline or stability. This rise was mainly due to butcher meat prices. Industrial producers passed through higher input prices for pork and lamb into ther prices. Year over year, food prices declined (−1.4%).
Rise in prices for “other industrial products”
Prices for “other industrial products” rose in July (+0.3% after 0.0%): prices of chemical products increased due to the upturn in prices for ethylene while prices for basic metals and metallic products continued to grow, driven up by the recovery in prices of iron, non-ferrous metals and aluminium. Conversely, prices for rubber products decreased. Prices for other products of this sector were stable or almost inchanged.
FOREIGN MARKETS: −0.1%
Producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets remained virtually stable in July (−0.1% after +0.1%). The decrease in prices for refined petroleum products and other energy products offset the rise in prices for food and other industrial products. In other sectors, prices were stable or virtually stable.
Import price indices of industrial products: −0.1% in July
In July, import prices of industrial products were also virtually stable (−0.1% after +0.6%): prices for refined petroleum products fell again whereas in other sectors, prices increased. Year over year, import prices declined by 4.3%.
