In Q1 2016, payroll employment continued to increase in non-farm market sectors, at virtually the same pace as in the previous quarter (+24,400 jobs, that is +0.2% q-o-q, after +31,800 jobs in Q4 2015). Year-on-year, it rose by 106,700 jobs (+0.7%), thanks to the tertiary sector.

In Q1 2016, payroll employment continued to increase in non-farm market sectors, at virtually the same pace as in the previous quarter (+24,400 jobs, that is +0.2% q-o-q, after +31,800 jobs in Q4 2015). Year-on-year, it rose by 106,700 jobs (+0.7%), thanks to the tertiary sector.

Employment continued to drop in industry (−12,600 jobs , i.e. −0.4% in Q1 2016). In construction, job losses eased (−3 800 jobs , i.e. −0.3% after −0.5% in the previous quarter). Year-on-year, industry shed more jobs (−41,100) than construction (−28,200).

By contrast, overall tertiary-sector employment continued to increase in Q1 2016 (+0.4%, that is +40 800 jobs, after +0.4% in Q4 2015). Excluding temporary work, employment in services accelerated slightly (+0.4%, i.e. +38, 800 jobs, after +0,3% in the previous quarter). Over a year, excluding temporary work, employment in services increased by 117,800 that is +1.1%. All in all, employment in non-farm market sectors excluding temporary work increased over a year (+48,500 jobs).

Temporary employment slowed

After three quarters of step rise, temporary employment decelerated clearly in Q1 2016 (+2,000 jobs that is +0.3%). Year-on-year, it increased strongly (+58,200 jobs, +11.0%).
