In March 2015, output increased again in the manufacturing industry (+0.3%, after +0.5%) while it fell back in the industry as a whole (–0.3% after +0.5%).

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In March 2015, output increased again in the manufacturing industry (+0.3%, after +0.5%) while it fell back in the industry as a whole (–0.3% after +0.5%).

Manufacturing output rose over the last quarter (+0.8%)

Over Q1 2015, output rose in the manufacturing sector (+0.8% q-o-q) and more strongly in the industry as a whole (+1.4% q-o-q).

Output improved in mining, quarrying, energy and water supply (+4.1%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+4.3%), in other manufacturing (+0.7%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+7.7%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.5%).

Conversely, output declined in the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (–1.5%).

Over the year, manufacturing output remained stable

Manufacturing output of the first quarter of 2015 remained steady compared to the same quarter of 2014. For that same period, overall industrial output went up (+1.0% y-o-y).

Output increased sharply in mining, quarrying, energy and water supply (+6.0%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.1%), and even more markedly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+14.4%). Output grew slightly in other manufacturing (+0.2%).

On the other hand, output went down dramatically in the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment (–4.1%) and very slightly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.2%).

In March 2015, output bounced back in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.0%)

Output bounced back in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.0% after –0.5%), in particular in the manufacture of beverages and in processing and preserving of meat and meat products.

It accelerated in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.6%)

Output went up again in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, at a stronger pace (+6.6% after +3.9%).

Output was almost stable in other manufacturing (+0.1%)

Output increased in other manufacturing; repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+0.7%), in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (+0.5%) and in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+0.7%). On the other hand, it declined in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (–1.2%) and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel and leather (–1.3%).

Output improved in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.6%)

Output went up again in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+2.2% after +1.7%). On the contrary, it declined in the manufacture of other transport equipment (–0.9% after +2.0%).

Conversely output declined in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (–2.9%)

In particular, output fell markedly in the electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (–3.3%).

Output decreased slightly in electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (–0.4%)

Output decreased in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (–0.9%) as well as in the manufacture of electrical equipment (–0.9%) but rebounded in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+0.9%).
