In December 2014, the turnover increased in information and communication (+0.9%). It also went up slightly in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.2%) and in real estate activities (+0.2%). It held almost steady in business support activities (+0.1%). Conversely, it decreased in transportation and storage (–0.4%).
Every index in this issue is in value (tax excluded), seasonally and working day adjusted (SA-WDA). The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In December 2014, the turnover increased in information and communication (+0.9%). It also went up slightly in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.2%) and in real estate activities (+0.2%). It held almost steady in business support activities (+0.1%). Conversely, it decreased in transportation and storage (–0.4%).

Slight increase in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In December, the turnover of the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles improved slightly (+0.2%) after two consecutive months of decline. It increased in the wholesale on a fee or contract basis (+1.1%), in the wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (+1.0%), of household goods (+0.5%) and of information and communication equipment (+1.3%). On the contrary, it declined in other specialised wholesale (–2.0%).
The turnover of the wholesale trade went down over Q4 2014 (–1.5%) as well as over the year (–1.8%).
Decrease in transportation and storage
In December, the turnover of transportation and storage declined (–0.4%) after two consecutive months of increase.
It decreased sharply in air transport (–5.7%). It also decreased in warehousing and support activities for transportation (–0.9%) and in water transport (–1.3%). Conversely, it went up in land transport and transport via pipelines (+0.8%) and sharply in postal and courier activities (+3.8%).
The turnover of transportation and storage improved over the last quarter of 2014 (+1.6%) and over the year (+1.7%).
Slight increase in real estate activities
The turnover of real estate activities increased slightly in December (+0.2%) after a slight decrease in November (–0.2%). It declined over the last quarter of 2014 (–0.4%) and over the year (–0.9%).

Increase in information and communication
In December 2014, the turnover of information and communication sector rose again (+0.9%, after +0.5% in November). It improved sharply in telecommunications (+2.9%) and more moderately in motion picture, video and television programme production (+0.6%). On the contrary, it diminished in publishing activities (–0.6%), programming and broadcasting activities (–0.6%) and in information service activities (–0.6%). It remained stable in computer programming, consultancy and related activities.
The turnover of information and communication levelled off over the last quarter of 2014 (–0.1%) but improved over the year (+1.1%).
Near stability in business support activities
The turnover of business support activities remained almost steady in December (+0.1%) after a stability in November.
The turnover improved in administrative and support service activities (+0.6%): it rose in employment activities (+1.7%), in office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+0.4%) and in rental and leasing activities (+0.4%).
On the contrary, the turnover in business support activities declined slightly in professional, scientific and technical activities (–0.3%): it diminished in architectural and engineering activities (–2.4%) and in legal and accounting activities (–0.7%) while it increased in activities of head offices (+0.6%).
The turnover of business support activities went up over the last quarter of 2014 (+0.3%) and more significantly over the year (+1.5%).
Revisions
The change in November was revised by +0.4 point in transportation and storage. Initially calculated at +1.4%, it was revised at +1.8%. That same month, the change was revised by –0.3 point in real estate activities and by +0.1 point in information and communication and in business support activities. It remained unchanged in the wholesale trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles.
