In December 2014, the turnover rose once more slightly again in the manufacturing industry (+0.3%, after +0.4% in November). Especially, exports kept on growing (+0.6% after +0.7%). In the industry as a whole, the turnover went up slightly too (+0.4%).
Every index in this issue is in value (tax excluded), seasonally and working day adjusted. The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In December 2014, the turnover rose once more slightly again in the manufacturing industry (+0.3%, after +0.4% in November). Especially, exports kept on growing (+0.6% after +0.7%).
In the industry as a whole, the turnover went up slightly too (+0.4%).
Decline over the fourth quarter (–0.3%)
Over the fourth quarter, the turnover decreased slightly in the manufacturing industry (–0.3% q-o-q) as well as in the industry as a whole (–0.5%).
The turnover fell in the electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (–1.5%) and the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–2.2%). It fell slightly in other manufacturing (–0.3%), mainly in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (–1.8%) and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products (–0.9%). It remained virtually stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.1%). Conversely, it grew in the manufacture of transport equipment (+1.1%), owed to the manufacture of other transport equipment (+3.0%) which more than offset the fall in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (–1.6%).
Fall compared to last year (–1.0%)
The turnover in the manufacturing industry went down over the fourth quarter of 2014 compared to the fourth quarter of 2013 (–1.0%).
Over this period, the turnover dropped dramatically in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–6.8%), and more slightly in other manufacturing (–0.8%) and in the electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (–2.5%). On the other hand, it improved moderately in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.4%). It levelled off in the manufacture of transport equipment.

Rebound in other manufacturing (+0.9%)
In December, the turnover recovered in other manufacturing (+0.9%) after a fall for three months in a row. It rose in every sector, mainly in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (+3.8%), the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+0.9%), other manufacturing; repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+0.7%) and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products (+0.6%).
New increase in equipments (+0.8%)
In December, the turnover grew again in the electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (+0.8%, after +0.3% in November). It climbed in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+2.0%). On the other hand, it fell in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (–0.7%). It was almost unchanched in the manufacture of electrical equipment (–0.1%).
Slight rise in food products and beverages (+0.2%)
The turnover grew slightly in December in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.2%), after a decline for two months in a row.
Drop in coke and refined petroleum products (–2.1%)
In December, the turnover went down sharply in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–2.1%) after a growth in November (+1.6%).
Slight decline in transport equipment (–0.2%)
The turnover in the manufacture of transport equipment dipped slightly in December (–0.2%, after +2.2% in November), in spite of a sharp increase in exports (+4.2%). The fall of the turnover in the manufacture of other transport equipment (–1.3%) offset the rise in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+1.4%).
No revisions in November in the manufacturing industry
In the manufacturing industry, the growth of the turnover in November is confirmed at +0.4%. It is down by 0.1 point for the industry as a whole (+0.2% instead of +0.3%).
