In April, producer prices of agricultural products decrease compared to March (-0.8 %) but increase by 1.1 % year-over-year.

Price of cereals rises slightly in April (+0.8%) and remains at a high level. The one for wheat is stable. The strong frost this winter partly damaged seeds of this cereal in Europe. However, the drop in yield on the European continent would be offset by a forecast of abundant crops in the USA. Price of maize is raised by the international demand.

Oleaginous price goes up in April (+4.9%). The cold spell also caused damage to rape. Sunflower price follows the same movement, these two goods being partially substituable.
Potato price falls in April year-over-year (–39.2 %). The harvests were carried out this fall ; more surface areas were devoted to the culture of potatoes in North-West Europe and the yields were higher than last year.
Wine price increases sligthly in April (+0.4 %).
Price of fresh fruits increases slightly year-over-year (+1.5 %). Strawberry is more expensive due to a supply marked by a decreasing national production : the fresh weather of April slowed the maturity of the fruits. The apple is moderatly exported due to European competition ; its price decreases as a result.

The price of fresh vegetable is higher in April that at the same period last year (+5.8 %). On the supply side, the severe winter weather decreased the potential for harvest regarding vegetables grown in open country (carrot, leek and salad). The production of asparagus was slowed by cool temperatures. On the other hand, the price of onion has fallen since the over-abundant harvest during the last campaign. On the demand side, consumers steered clear of tomatoes and cucumbers this month due to the dull weather.

Price of animal goes down in April (-1.2 %) on a seasonally adjusted basis. The one of pork decreases noticeably due to European competition and a sluggish demand.
Price of eggs goes down this month, the supply reinflating progressively. It stays however on a sharp rise year-over-year (+161.6%), as a result of a sharp cut in the production : a European directive has ordered compliance to a new standard for hen coops, reducing the number of animals.

Purchase price of the means of agricultural production increases slightly in April.
The price of intermediate consumptions rises month-over-month (+0.3 %), as the increasing prices of several inputs were partly offset by the decreasing price of the fuel. Price of investment is almost stable in April.
