In Hyper and Supermarkets, prices of frequently purchased goods stabilised in January 2013, like in December 2012.

Year-on-year, prices increased by 0.6% in hyper and supermarkets

In January 2013, prices of frequently purchased goods were 0.6% higher than those of the year before in hyper and supermarkets (+0.9% in December 2012). They rose by 4.0% over a year in January 2012.

Prices declined in hypermarkets, they increased slightly in supermarkets

In hypermarkets, frequently purchased good prices went down by 0.1% in January 2013, after a rise by 0.1% in December 2012.

Over a year, frequently purchased good prices rose by 0.5% in hypermarkets (+0.8% in December 2012). They increased by 3.9%, year on year, in January 2012.

In supermarkets, frequently purchased good prices went up by 0.1% in January 2013, after a decrease by 0.1% in December 2012.

Over a year, frequently purchased good prices rose by 0.9% in supermarkets (+1.1% in December 2012). They increased by 4.0%, year on year, in January 2012.

Slight increase in prices in January in the other store categories

In the other store categories, prices of frequently purchased goods increased by 0.1% in January 2013 (after remained stable in December 2012). Over a year, they went up by 2.7% in January 2013 (+3.1% in December, 2012). In January 2012, they increased by 5.2%, year on year.

Excluding fresh foodstuffs, food and beverages were stable in hyper and supermarkets in January

Excluding fresh products, food and beverage prices are stable in the hyper and supermarkets in January, like in December 2012. Over a year, they increased of 0.9% in January 2013 (+1.1% in December 2012). They grew by 4.2%, year on year, in January 2012.

In January 2013, meat prices declined by 0.1% (after +0.4% in December 2012) as a consequence of a large decrease in pork and sausage prices (—0.4% in January; +2.3%, year on year), while the prices of other meats remained dynamic. Over a year, meat prices went up by 2.6% in hyper and supermarkets (after +2.9% in December). In January 2012, they increased by 4.4%, year on year.

In hyper and supermarkets, beverage prices rose sharply in January 2013 (+0.7% after —0.3% in December; +1.7%, year on year) in connection with excise duty increases on alcohol from January 2013. Alcoholic beverage prices rose by 1.3% in January while those of non-alcoholic beverages slipped again (—0.2% in December). Over a year, beverage prices slowed in hyper and supermarkets (+1.7% after +1.8% in December 2012).

In January 2013, prices of the other food products decreased by 0.2%, like in December 2012. Year on year, they went down by 0.4% in January (—0.2% in December). Over a year, they were up by 4.0% in January 2012.

Slight decline in prices of the cleaning and personal care products in January

In January 2013, prices of the cleaning and personal care products decreased by 0.1% after a rise by 0.1% in December 2012. Over a year, the prices of these products declined also. They increased by 2.4%, year on year, in January 2012.
