In August 2012, the turnover decreased compared to July in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (–0.8%). Conversely, it rose in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.0%), in accommodation and food service activities (+0.9%) and, to a lesser extent, in household services (+0.3%).

Every index in this issue is in volume, seasonally and working-day adjusted.

In August 2012, the turnover decreased compared to July in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (–0.8%). Conversely, it rose in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.0%), in accommodation and food service activities (+0.9%) and, to a lesser extent, in household services (+0.3%).

Quarter on quarter (q-o-q), the turnover rose in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.8%). It was broadly stable in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.1%). And it declined slightly in accommodation and food service activities (–0.3%) and in household services (–0.3%).

Year on year (y-o-y), the turnover decreased sharply in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (–3.0%), in accommodation and food services activities (–2.8%) and in household services (–2.6%). On the contrary, it grew in the retail trade , except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (+2.4%).

According to our early estimate, the turnover in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles is expected to rise in September 2012 (+0.7%).

Revisions

The SA-WDA evolution in July has been revised by –0.1 point in accommodation and food service activities and +0.1 point in household services. These variations, announced at –0.7% and –1.0% last month, have been corrected at –0.8% and –0.9%.
