In July 2011, household’s confidence about the economic situation improves : the synthetic confidence index gains 3 poionts with respect to June.

Personal situation

Financial situation : improving

In July, households appreciation of their past and future financial situation improves: the corresponding balances gain 3 and 2 points respectively. Households’s opinion on the timeliness to make major purchases also improves (+4 points).

Savings : sizable increase

Households’ opinion about their current saving capacity markedly increases in July (+7 points); so does their appreciation of their savings capacity in the next 12 months (+4 points).

Yet, households consider that the timeliness for savings deteriorates, the corresponding balance of opinion loses 2 points but remains above its long term average.

Expected general economic situation in France : improving

Households’ opinion about the past and expected general economic situation in France improves. The corresponding balances of opinion gain 1 and 3 points respectively but remain notably below their long term average.

Future unemployment: pessimistic expectations

In July, households are much mores numerous to forecast an increase in unemployment (+10 points). After having declined since February, this balance of opinion is back to where it was by the end of 2010.

Inflation’s appreciation: decreasing expectations

Households’ appreciation of past inflation is almost stable in July (+1 point). On the contrary, the expected inflation balance of opinion loses 4 points, and is back its level of late 2010.
