In September 2010, the consumer confidence about the economic situation improves: its summary indicator gains 3 points with respect to July (s.a. data).

Components of the confidence indicator

National outlooks improve faster than personnal outlooks

In September, households appreciation of the general economic situation (future or past) in France markedly improved (+4 points with respect to July). Their appreciation of their financial situation (future or past) gains one point. Their opinion on the timeliness to make major purchases also improves drastically (+4 points).

Other opinion balances

Future unemployment: fears ease off

In September, households are much less numerous than in July to forecast an increase in unemployment. After levelling out since October 2009 at a very high value, this balance plummets by 24 points in two months. Yet, it remains above its long term average.

Inflation’s appreciation: almost stable

In September, households report that past inflation has slightly increased (+4 points with respect to July). However, the expected inflation balance of opinion is almost stable (–1 point).

Households feel like saving

Households’ opinion about their current financial situation slightly increases (+1 point) and remains higher than its long term value.

Households also believe that their savings capacity in the next 12 months improves (+2 points) while their opinion on the timeliness for savings markedly increases (+4 points).
