In October 2015, the turnover decreased in the wholesale trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (–0.5%). By contrast, it rebounded in business support activities (+0.9%), in transportation and storage (+0.9%) and in information and communication (+0.4%) and it rose again in real estate activities (+0.8%).
Every index in this issue is in value (tax excluded), seasonally and working day adjusted (SA-WDA). The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In October 2015, the turnover decreased in the wholesale trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (–0.5%). By contrast, it rebounded in business support activities (+0.9%), in transportation and storage (+0.9%) and in information and communication (+0.4%) and it rose again in real estate activities (+0.8%).

Decrease in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In October 2015, the turnover of the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles declined again (–0.5%), after a stability in September. It decreased particularly in the wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (–1.8%), in the wholesale of agricultural raw materials and live animals (–3.9%), and in other specialised wholesale (–1.2%). Conversely, it increased in the wholesale of household goods (+1.1%) and in the wholesale of information and communication equipment (+2.0%).
The turnover of the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased over the last three months (–1.0%) and over the year (–0.6%).
Turnaround in business support activities
In October, the turnover of business support activities rebounded (+0.9% after –1.3%). It increased mostly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.4% after –1.6%), in particular in activities of head offices (+2.1%), and in architectural and engineering activities (+2.6%). The turnover grew slightly in administrative and support service activities (+0.2%): in particular, it rebounded significantly in office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+1.2%), but declined again in employment activities (–1.0%).
The turnover in business support activities decreased very slightly over the last three months (–0.2%) whereas it went up over the year (+0.9%).

Rebound in transportation and storage
In October, the turnover of transportation and storage recovered (+0.9% after –1.0% in September). It picked up markedly in warehousing and support activities for transportation (+3.0% after –1.6%) and to a lesser extent in transport and transport via pipelines (+0.5%), and in air transport (+0.2%). By contrast, it slipped back sharply in air water transport (–4.5 % after +6.7%) and went on decreasing in postal and courier activities (–0.6%).
The turnover of transportation and storage was virtually stable over the last three months (–0.1%) and increased over the year (+0.9%).
Increase in information and communication
The turnover of information and communication recovered somewhat in October (+0.4% after –0.8%). It increased notably in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+0.8%), in motion picture, video and television programme production (+2.1%) and in information service activities (+2.4%). On the contrary, the turnover decreased again in telecommunications (–0.6%).
The turnover of information and communication increased over the last three months (+1.0%) and year-on-year (+3.5%).
Further rise in real estate activities
In October, the turnover of real estate activities improved again (+0.8% after +1.1% in September). It remained stable over the last three months and rose over the year (+2.6%).
Revisions
The variation of turnover for September 2015 has been lowered by 0.1 points in transportation and storage. That same month, the variation has been revised upwards by +0.1 points in information and communication, in business support activities and in real estate activities. It remained unchanged in the wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles.
