Every index in this issue is in value (tax excluded), seasonally and working day adjusted (SA-WDA). The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In October 2015, the turnover fell back in the manufacturing industry (–1.0%, after +0.6% in September). Exports dropped once more (–0.8%, after –1.4%).

In the industry as a whole , the turnover slipped back as well (–1.0%, after +0.4%).

Decline over the last three months (–0.8%)

Over the last three months, the turnover went down in the manufacturing industry (–0.8%) and in the industry as a whole (–0.7%).

The turnover dipped in all sectors of the manufacturing industry. It dropped sharply in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–8.0%), and in the manufacture of transport equipment (–1.1%) in spite of a rise in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+1.8%). It fell to a lesser extent in other industries (–0.3%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.3%) and in the electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (–0.2%).

Virtual stability compared to last year (+0.1%)

The turnover in the manufacturing industry remained virtually stable over the last three months, compared to the same three months of the previous year. It grew in the industry as a whole (+0.4%) owing to the mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management sector (+2.5%).

Over this period, the turnover plummeted in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–20.6%). It also went down in other manufacturing (–0.7%). Conversely, it rocketed in the manufacture of transport equipment (+8.5%) and it went up more moderately in the electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (+1.2%). It levelled off in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.1%).
