- To obtain social indicators (non-monetary that can be interlinked) with an annual frequency - To cover certain topics within the field of living conditions in greater detail. By using variable modules which can be: - Isolated, with a view to exploring a new field (e.g. local services, "happiness and work", community life, health-related behaviours and the voluntary sector) - Repeated and revisited developments in topics (holidays, environment, new technologies, etc.) which need to be monitored on a regular basis (usually 4 or 5 years),

The household and individual members of households are randomly sampled (Kish individuals).

The EPCV scheme involves three surveys per year.
Période et mode de collecte :
Every year, from 1996 to 2003, one survey was conducted in January, another in May and the last one in October. In 2004 and 2005, one survey was conducted in January and a second in October. The last two surveys were in January 2006.

Plan de sondage :
The survey is administered to a sample of 8,800 households on each occasion and one (in October) to three (in May and January) randomly sampled individual(s) per household responding to the questionnaire, for a total of approximately 11,000 individuals responding in January.
