Présentation statistique
Sector coverage
The sectoral scope of the aeronautics and space industry covers approximately sixty sectors within the French nomenclature of activities (NAF). It is divided into two categories:
-
the core sector : aeronautics and spacecraft construction (3030Z), space transportation (5122Z), aircraft and spacecraft repair and maintenance (3316Z)
-
potential sectors : electronic manufacturing and components (2611Z), industrial mechanics (2562B), hydraulic and pneumatic equipment manufacturing (2812Z), technical analysis, testing, and inspection (7120B), etc.
Statistical concepts and definitions
The following topics are covered:
• Characterization of the role of companies and their positioning in the sector
• Analysis of economic activity and measurement of the internationalization of production
• Recruitment difficulties and projects
• Adaptation to environmental challenges and development prospects
Statistical unit
Legal unit
Statistical population
The survey concerns legal units whose activities potentially contribute to the construction and heavy maintenance of aircraft, spacecraft, or their engines, regardless of their use (civil or military).
• In the aeronautics sector, aircraft include airplanes, helicopters, gliders, microlights, airships, and non-recreational aerial drones.
• In the space sector, spacecraft include launchers and space vehicles, satellites, and probes.
More specifically, the scope covers the activities of research, design, manufacturing, wholesale marketing, or certification of parts, subassemblies, equipment, and embedded systems specific to aeronautics and spacecraft construction. The sector also covers the design and supply of tools, machines, or software not integrated into the final product (aircraft or spacecraft) but which contribute to its production, as well as the assembly, integration, and testing of systems, aircraft, and spacecraft.
However, downstream activities are excluded from the scope of the sector and therefore from the scope of the survey : these include the activities of airlines, airports, companies responsible for exploiting satellite data, companies that provide staff training or logistics on premises (cleaning, security, etc.). Activities related to intercontinental ballistic missiles are also excluded.Conventional perimeter of the aerospace and space industry is defined by the units of the << core >> of the AS sector (3030Z, 5122Z), by the "partial" sectors units (2051Z, 2562B, 2651A, 3316Z), and the "potential" areas units (40 classes of activity NAF).
