Statistical concepts and definitions
A business bankruptcy is a statistical concept used to refer to the initiation of collective proceedings (judicial reorganisation or judicial liquidation) ordered by a competent court following a cessation of payments.
The purpose of judicial reorganisation proceedings is, where possible, to ensure the continuation of activity, the preservation of employment, and the clearance of liabilities—that is, the restructuring and partial or gradual settlement of the company’s debts.
In most cases, however, these proceedings ultimately result in judicial liquidation, marking the disappearance of the business.
