Development of quarterly Air emission accounts and environmental footprints based on FIGARO

INSEE and the Statistical Service of the Ministry of Energy, Housing, Transport and the Environment wish to improve the quality and uses of air emissions accounts, which describe French greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in a format compatible with national accounts. The first sub-project aims to develop quarterly series of air emission accounts, which currently only exist in an annual version. The objective is to integrate the measurement and commentary of GHG emissions into INSEE's quarterly economic publications. The second sub-project aims to enhance the current method of estimating France's carbon footprint by increasing the number of products identified in the calculation model, particularly in the areas of agriculture and energy, and by establishing a more direct link with physical unit accounts, particularly for energy products. The objective is to improve the accuracy of the measurement, but also to be able to answer more specific questions from users about the determinants of France's carbon footprint.
