In August 2025, the volume of sales in trade increased by 1.0% over a month, after decreasing by 0.7% in July.
In August 2025, the volume of sales grew in the three main trade sectors
In August 2025*, the volume of sales in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles bounced back over a month (+1.1% after -1.5% in July). This increase was mainly driven by a rebound in sales in “other specialised wholesale (fuels, wood, chemicals, etc.)” (+1.8% after -3.2%) and in the household goods sectors (+1.2% after -0.9%).
The volume of sales volumes rose again in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.7% after +0,7%), driven mainly by a sharp acceleration in the sale of motor vehicles (+2.3% after +0.8%).
Lastly, sales volume also increased in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.4% after +0.2%) as a result of the rebound in sales in non-specialised stores (+1.2% after -0.5%) and in trade not in stores (+1.4% after -0.7%). Conversely, sales volume fell back in specialised stores (-0.3% after +0.8%) mainly due to the sharp drop in sales in “other goods in specialised stores (pharmacies, clothing shops, shoe shops, etc.)” (-1.4% after +2.4%).
From June to August 2025, the volume of sales increased by 1.5% compared to the same three months a year before
The cumulative volume of sales in overall trade between June and August 2025 was 1.5% higher than that of the same period a year earlier. It increased sharply in the retail trade (+2.8%) and more moderately in the wholesale trade (+1.2%) as well as in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.3%).
Within the retail trade, sales grew year on year in specialised stores (+3.1%), in non-specialised stores (+2.4%) and in retail trade not in stores (+2.5%) alike.
