In July 2025, the volume of sales in trade decreased by 1.3% over a month, following an increase of 0.6% in June.

In July 2025, the volume of sales decreased in wholesale trade, as well as in retail trade

In July 2025*, the volume of sales in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles contracted over a month (-2.0% after +0.9% in June). This decline was mainly driven by the fall in sales in “other specialised wholesale (fuels, wood, chemicals, etc.)” (-3.7% after +3.1%), in wholesale on a fee or contract basis (-3.3% after +0.3%) and in wholesales of food, beverages and tobacco (-2.7% after -0.4%).

The volume of sales also decreased in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-0.9% after being stable in June). It fell back in non-specialised stores (-1.5% after +0.5%) as well as in trade not in stores (-1.6% after +1.1%). It decreased again in specialised stores (-0.4% after -0.5%), within which the decrease in sales volume was particularly pronounced for automotive fuel (-2.2% after +1.5%) and for food products (-1.8% after +0.3%).

Lastly, the volume of sales increased again in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, but at a slower pace (+0.2% after +0.6%). This increase was in particular driven by the sale of motor vehicles (+0.2% after +0.1%).

From May to July 2025, the volume of sales increased by 0.9% compared to the same three months a year before

The cumulative volume of sales in overall trade between May and July 2025 was 0.9% higher than that of the same period a year earlier. Excluding trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, it increased sharply in the retail trade (+2.9%) and more moderately in the wholesale trade (+0.4%). Conversely, it decreased in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-1.4%).

Within the retail trade, sales grew in specialised stores (+3.3%), in non-specialised stores (+1.9%) and in retail trade not in stores (+4.2%).
