In Q2 2023, prices of buildings' maintenance and improvement works were stable over

Stability over a quarter
In Q2 2023, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work prices –IPEA– were unchanged, after +2.4% in Q1 2023 and +1.6% in Q4 2022. Prices edged down slightly in the residential sector (‑0.2%) whereas they rose in the non-residential sector (+0.3%).
Prices downturned markedly in joinery installation (‑0.5% after +1.8%) and slightly in electrical installation (‑0.2% after +3.1%) and in “other specialised construction activities” (‑0.2% after +1.1%).
They slowed down sharply in “other construction installation” (+0.6% after +3.5%), plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+0.3% after +3.2%), roofing (+0.4% after +2.8%), plastering (+0.7% after +2.2%) and floor and wall covering (+0.8% after +1.5%).
Lastly, prices stabilized in painting and glazing (+0.0% after +2.7%).
6.2% rise over a year
Year on year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices slowed down (+6.2% in Q2 2023 after +8.9% in the previous quarter). The year-on-year rise was higher in the residential sector (+6.5%) than in the non-residential sector (+5.6%).
Prices slowed down over a year in every branch of activity. They continued to go up markedly in joinery installation (+7.9% after +12.1%), roofing (+7.2% after +10.1%), and floor and wall covering (+7.0% after +8.8%).
Prices rose at a more moderate pace in painting and glazing (+6.5% after +8.7%), “other specialised construction activities” (+6.3% after +9.3%), plastering (+6.2% after +8.3%) and plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+6.1% after +9.1%).
Lastly the rise over a year was less marked in “other construction installation” (+5.3% after +6.2%) and electrical installation (+3.8% after +5.3%).
Revisions
The quarterly evolution in the IPEA for the first quarter of 2023 has been revised upwards by 0.1 points at +2.4% after taking into account late responses of companies.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of prices (net of taxes) charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
