The opinion on demand has improved slightly
In August 2023, slightly more building contractors than in the previous month have considered the level of their order books to be higher than average. The corresponding balance of opinion has rebounded and remains above its long term average.
Given their staff size, building contractors have considered that their order books provide them with 8.3 months of work, a duration that has slightly increased compared to the previous month, and that also stands above its long term average.
The tensions on the production apparatus have lessened slightly
In August 2023, the production capacity utilisation rate has kept on dropping: it stands at 91.6% and remains above its long term average (89.0%).
Slightly less business managers than in the previous month have reported facing obstacles limiting their production. At 63%, their share has dropped slightly below its long term average. The proportion of business managers who declared facing a workforce shortage is almost stable (42%), well above its long term average level, while the proportion of those reporting supply difficulties has kept on dipping (8%), but remains slightly above its average.
The share of companies that have reported to be at the limit of their production capacity (production bottlenecks), that is to say that they could not produce more with their current means if they were to receive more orders, is almost stable. 24% of business managers considered themselves unable to increase their production in case of additional orders due to a lack of personnel and 4% due to supply difficulties.
The balance of opinion regarding expected prices has continued to drop
In August 2023, business managers are again fewer in number than in the previous month to announce that they will increase their prices in the upcoming three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has continued to drop since February 2023, while remaining above its long term average.
