Business leader's opinion on their past and upcoming activity has improved

In December 2022, building contractors have been more optimistic than in the previous month regarding both their past and expected activity. The two corresponding balances of opinion have clearly rebounded and deviated from their average. The balance of opinion on expected activity has been rising almost continuously since August 2022.

Less business managers than in the previous month have considered the evolution of their company situation to be unpredictable: the balance of opinion on the economic uncertainty felt has decreased slightly for the third month in a row.

The share of companies facing supply difficulties has kept on decreasing but remains at a high level

In December 2022, the production capacity is stable: it stands at 92.8%, a high level that remains above its long term average (88.9%).

As many business managers as in the previous month have reported facing obstacles limiting their production (69%): this share has barely changed since August 2022. Among them, the share of business managers who declared facing a workforce shortage has slightly dropped. The proportion of those who declared supply difficulties has also dropped, although its level remains above its long term average.

The share of companies at the limit of their production capacity, that is to say that they could not produce more with their current means if they received more orders, has dropped to 52% (after 55% in November 2022). 28% of business managers considered themselves both unable to increase their production in case of additional orders due to a lack of personnel, 13% due to supply difficulties (a slightly decreasing share).

The balance of opinion regarding expected prices has kept on decreasing but remains very high

In December 2022, fewer business managers than in the previous month have announced that they will increase their prices in the upcoming three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has decreased but remains at a very high level.
