Warning: Revision of BT18a and BT19b index headings, update of the composition of the BT16b, BT18a, BT19b, BT54, TP08 and TP09 indices.

From this publication onwards, the word “wood” is added to the headings of BT18a and BT19b indices in order to clarify these headings. The heading of the BT18a index now reads as follow: “Inside wood joinery” and that of the BT19b index now reads as follow: “Outside wood joinery”. These changes neither affect the composition nor the calculation of these indices. It is only intended to better reflect their actual composition.

Furthermore, from this publication onwards, the weights and inputs of BT16b “Wood frame”, BT18a “Inside wood joinery”, BT19b “Outside wood joinery” and BT54 “Wood framework” indices are updated in order to better take into account the costs incurred in these activities. The new weights and inputs are detailed in the notice published in the Official Journal referring to the release of the July 2022 indices and in the methodological note “ Composition détaillée des index BT en base 2010 “.

In July 2022, the BT16b, BT18a, BT19b and BT54 indices monthly evolutions are calculated from their new compositions and are chain-linked to their June 2022 value in order to obtain the July 2022 value, without revising previously disseminated values.

Lastly, from this publication onwards, the weights and inputs of the "Energy" item of TP08 “Roads development works and maintenance” and TP09 “Making and implementation of mixes” indices are also updated in order to better take into account the costs incurred in these activities. The new weights and inputs are detailed in the notice published in the Official Journal referring to the release of the indices for July 2022 and in the methodological note “ Composition détaillée des index TP en base 2010 “.

In July 2022, the TP08 and TP09 indices monthly evolutions are calculated based on their new weights and inputs and are chain-linked to their June 2022 value in order to obtain the July 2022 value, without revising the previously disseminated values.

Definition

The Construction of buildings indices, Civil engineering indices, the Miscellaneous indices for construction and the index for updating material assets in construction are producer cost indices of different activities in the construction sector, mainly used for escalating contracts.

Calculation method

The Construction of Buildings indices and Civil engineering indices are cost indices of different activities in the construction sector, compiled from six items in an analytical accounting process similar to the “KLEMST” approach used by economists in relation to productivity (where K = capital for “assets”, L = labour, E = energy, M = materials, S = services for “miscellaneous costs”, T = transport). Each item is made up of basic indices issued from public statistics.

Uses

Businesses and local authorities may use these official indices published in the Official Journal for construction work bids, by selecting the activity that is closest to the subject of their bid. In contracts signed before the publication of the indices in the Official Journal of 16 January 2015 the former series have to be used until September 2014 inclusively, and, since October 2014 inclusively, the former series can be expanded by chain-linking it with the latter one. The result is to be rounded off to one decimal place.
