Services producer prices rose by 0.6% in Q1 2022 and by 3.5% over a year Services producer price indices - first quarter 2022
In the first quarter of 2022 as in the previous one, producer prices of services rose by 0.6% over a quarter. Those of services sold to home businesses decelerated (+0.5% after +0.9%), as did those of exported services (+1.3% after +1.5%). The producer prices of services sold to households in France rebounded in accordance with the usual seasonal pattern (+0.5% after –0.8%). Year on year, producer prices of services – for all markets – rose by 3.5%, as in the previous quarter.

Those of services sold to home businesses decelerated (+0.5% after +0.9%), as did those of exported services (+1.3% after +1.5%). The producer prices of services sold to households in France rebounded in accordance with the usual seasonal pattern (+0.5% after –0.8%). Rise of prices for real estate activities, for administrative and support service activities and for transportation and storage services
In the first quarter of 2022, prices for real estate activities accelerated sharply over a quarter (+1.5% after +0.5%) and over a year (+2.5% after +0.3%). They were lifted by the acceleration of prices in renting and operating services of own or leased real estate (+1.8% over a quarter, after +0.3%).
Prices for administrative and support service activities sped up slightly in the first quarter of 2022, both over a quarter (+1.0% after +0.8%) and over a year (+2.3% after +2.0%). They were mainly held up by the strong acceleration of prices for rental and leasing services (+1.9% over a quarter, after +0.2%), while those for employment services stabilized (+0.1% over a quarter, after +2.0%).
Prices for transportation and storage services went up by 0.8% in the first quarter of 2022 (after +0.7%), driven by a new acceleration of prices for freight transport services by road (+3.1% after +1.6% and +0.7%). On the contrary, prices for warehousing and support services for transportation slowed down slightly (+0.2% after +0.3%). Year on year, prices for transportation and storage services decelerated slightly (+5.1% after +5.6%).
Seasonal downturn of prices for accommodation and food service activities
In the first quarter of 2022, prices for accommodation and food service activities fell back over a quarter (–0.8% after +0.4%), mainly due to the seasonal downturn of those for hotel and similar accommodation services (–7.4% after +0.8%). Year on year, prices for accommodation and food service activities slowed down (+2.9% after +3.7%).
Stability of prices for professional, scientific and technical activities and for information and communication services
Prices for professional, scientific and technical activities were virtually stable in the first quarter of 2022 over a quarter (+0.1% after +1.1%). Those for media representation services fell back in accordance with the usual seasonal pattern (–11.2% after +15.3%), while those for engineering services and related technical consulting services rose again (+0.7% after +0.4%). Year on year, prices for professional, scientific and technical activities went up by 1.2% (after +1.1%).
At last, prices for information and communication services were stable in the first quarter of 2022 over a quarter (after +1.2%). The seasonal downturn of prices for programming and broadcasting services (–10.4% after +13.5%) was offset by the new rise of prices for computer consultancy services (+1.1%, as in the previous quarter). Year on year, prices for information and communication were back on the rise (+0.7% after a stability).

In the first quarter of 2022, producer prices of services sold to households in France rebounded over a quarter (+0.5% after –0.8%), mainly due to the seasonal rebound in prices for accommodation and food service activities (+1.6% after –2.8%). Prices for professional, scientific and technical activities remained dynamic (+1.9% after +2.0%). Year on year, producer prices of services sold to households in France kept accelerating (+2.7% after +2.3% and +1.9%).

Services sold on foreign markets: +1.3%
In the first quarter of 2022, exported services producer prices decelerated slightly over a quarter (+1.3% after +1.5%), and more significantly over a year (+12.4% after +15.0%). Those for transportation and storage services decelerated again (+2.2% after +2.5% and +15.5%), due to the slowdown of prices for sea and coastal freight water transport services (+3.3% after +4.4% and +25.8%). However, prices for transportation and storage services remained on a strong rise over a year (+32.3% after +44.8%). At last, prices for administrative and support service activities accelerated slightly over a quarter (+1.9% after +1.7%) and more significantly over a year (+4.8% after +3.0%).

They are calculated, by market and by product, based on the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise) operated by INSEE.
SPPI are calculated on four types of market segments:
BtoB: business to business, corresponding to services sold to home businesses;
BtoC: business to customer, corresponding to services sold to households in France;
BtoE: business to exports, corresponding to services sold on foreign markets;
BtoAll: business to all, corresponding to the aggregation of the three market segments BtoB, BtoC and BtoE.
