Over the quarter, prices of buildings' maintenance and improvement works accelerated (+2.9%)

In Q1 2022, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work prices – IPEA – strongly accelerated (+2.9% over the quarter after +1.9% in Q4 and +1.3% in Q3). The rise was particularly marked in plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+4.9% after +2.5%), in joinery installation (+3.7% after +2.9%),in roofing (+2.7% after +2.0%) and in other specialized construction works (+2.6% after +0.8%).

Prices rose at a more moderate pace in plastering (+2.2% after +1.5%), electrical installation works (+2.2% after +1.7%), floor and wall covering works (+2.1% after +1.0%) and in painting and glazing (+1.4% after +0.7%).

Finally, prices slowed down in other construction installation works (+0.8% after +1.7%).

Over the quarter, prices rose more in the residential sector (+3.2%) than in the non-residential sector (+2.6%).

Rise of 8.3% over a year

Over one year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices went up by 8.3% in Q1 2022 (after +6.8% in the previous quarter). The increase was similar in the residential sector (+8.4%) and in the non-residential sector (+8.3%).

Prices accelerated for all types of work: they were on a sharp rise in joinery installation (+13.1% after +12.0%), plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+11.2% after +6.7%), roofing (+11.2% after +10.7%); the rise was less marked but still highly significant in electrical installation (+6.9% after +6.2%), plastering (+6.9% after +6.2%), other specialized construction works (+5.7% after +5.3%), floor and wall covering (+5.1% after +3.7%), in painting and glazing (+3.5% after +2.7%) and, to a lesser degree, in other construction installation works (+1.6% after +0.5%).

Revisions

The evolution in the IPEA price index between the third and the fourth quarter of 2021 was revised upwards by 0.1 points and is at +1.9%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of prices (net of taxes) charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.

The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
