Tensions on the productive apparatus remain intense
In March 2022, the production capacity utilisation rate is virtually stable. At 92.8%, it stands above its long-term average (88.8%).
More business managers than in the previous month have reported that obstacles are limiting their production: their proportion has bounced back and remains higher than its average level. The share of those facing difficulties due to a workforce shortage (46%) and due to supply difficulties (31%) have bounced back this month.
At the same time, the share of companies at the limit of their production capacity, that is to say that could not produce more with their current means if they received more orders, has slightly risen. Somewhat more than half of business managers have reported to be in this situation, against a third in average in the long term. More precisely, more than a quarter of business managers consider themselves both unable to increase their production in case of additional orders and facing difficulties due to a lack of personnel, a share again more important than last month and much larger than in average. Likewise, the share of business managers unable to increase their production and facing supply difficulties has bounced back and remains well above its long-term average.
The balance of opinion on expected prices has recovered
In March 2022, business managers are more numerous than in the previous month to report that they will increase their prices over the next three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has recovered its high level of last January.

graphiqueWorkforce size tendency in building construction

- Source : INSEE
The opinion on order books has worsened slightly
In March 2022, somewhat fewer business managers than last month have deemed the level of their order books to be higher than usual: the corresponding balance has decreased slightly while staying far above its average. Besides, given their staff size, building contractors consider that their order books provide them with 8.8 months of work, an amount of time almost as high as the previous month.
For further information
For questions with three possible answers, a balance of opinion is calculated as the difference between the percentage of “increase” responses and the percentage of “decrease” responses.
The responses to this survey have collected between 25 February and 21 March 2022.
All balances of opinion from the survey are published in this Informations Rapides and in the complementary chronological series available online.
Additional information (simplified and detailed methodology, nomenclature, etc.) is available on the “Documentation” tab of the web page of this publication.
