The balance of opinion on the upcoming change in workforce size has picked up
In August 2021, the balance of opinion of business managers about the employment prospects for the next three months has rebounded and has returned to its level of June, well above its long-term average. Conversely, the balance of opinion on the change in the workforce size over the past three months has fallen back; it remains nevertheless well above its long-term average.
The order books provide nearly nine months of work in average
In August 2021, the business managers are slightly less numerous than last month to consider that the level of their order books is higher than normal: the corresponding balance of opinion has edged down but remains significantly above its long-term average. Moreover, given their present staff size, the business managers consider that their order books provide 8.7 months of work, a time span that remains significantly above its long-term average (5.8 months).
The pressures on productive capacities remain very strong
In August 2021, the production capacity utilisation rate is virtually stable. At 92.0%, it stands above its long-term average (88.7%). At the same time, the production bottlenecks have remained at a high level: half of business managers have reported some this month, a proportion stable compared to July, well above the long-term average (33%). A quarter of business managers consider that they are unable to increase their production due to a lack of staff, a share virtually stable, at a high level. Likewise, the share of business managers reporting production bottlenecks due to supply difficulties is virtually stable and remains much higher than in average.
Prices often announced rising for the next three months
In August 2021, almost as many business managers as in the previous month have reported an increase of their prices for the next three months. The corresponding balance is virtually stable, at a very high level.
