In April 2021, the opinion of real estate developers on demand for new housing has improved significantly compared to January 2021: the corresponding balance has increased and returned above its long-term average.

In April 2021, the opinion of real estate developers on demand for new housing has improved significantly compared to January 2021: the corresponding balance has increased and returned above its long-term average.

Prospects for housing starts have edged down compared to January 2021

In April 2021, slightly fewer developers than in January expect a rise in housing starts over the next three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has fallen back a little but remains slightly above its long-term average. It has declined specifically for rental accommodation. The balance of opinion relating to housing held for sale is stable above its average level.

At the same time, more developers than in January have reported an increase in their unsold dwelling stock. The corresponding balance has increased again and returned to its July level, a little above its long-term average.

Real estate developers consider that downpayment to purchase new housing has increased over the past 3 months

In April 2021, real estate developers are as numerous as in January to indicate an increase in the housing average price for sale. The corresponding balance is stable, well above its long-term average. Regarding financing, developers are much more numerous than in January 2021 to deem that downpayment to purchase new housing has increased over the last three months: the associated balance has bounced back significantly and is well above its long-term average. Finally, more developers than in the previous quarter consider that the financing resources devoted to new housing purchases will increase over the next three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has increased again and stands well above its average.
