26 March 2020
2020- n° 76Monthly survey in the building construction industry – March 2020 Monthly survey of building - March 2020
According to the business managers in the building construction industry surveyed in March 2020, the business climate remains stable. However, given the context of the collect (cf. Warning), this essentially reflects the opinion of business managers in early March. The composite indicator stands at 112, very largely above its long-term average (100). Otherwise, the climate in February 2020 is revised upwards by one point because of late responses from businesses that have been taken into account.
Given the context of the fight against the spread of COVID-19, the statistics published in this issue of Informations Rapides may be less accurate than usual. Companies’ responses were collected between 26 February and 23 March 2020. However, as of 14 March, only the responses received via the internet could be processed. In addition, many companies may have encountered difficulties in responding to the survey. Most responses were collected before 16 March 2020, the date from which schools have been closed.
- Business managers are more pessimist about their upcoming activity
- The opinion of business managers on past and upcoming employment has deteriorated
- Order books are slightly less well filled
- The pressures on productive capacity are a little less strong
- Business managers are less numerous than in February to anticipate an increase in prices
