Sharp rise in the balance of opinion on past employment
In October 2019, the balance of opinion of business managers about the recent development in employment has sharply grown compared to September, both in retail trade and in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles. However, the balance on the expected change in workforce size has slightly fallen back. This is mainly due to trade and repair of motor vehicles.
The balances on recent and expected workforce size are below their long-term average, overall, because of retail trade.
In retail trade, the business climate continues to improve
In October, in retail trade, the business climate has improved again. The composite indicator has gained two points to 97. However, it has remained below its long-term mean (100). In particular, the balances on recent employment, expected prices and general business outlook have significantly increased. However, the balances on recent sales and on ordering intentions have fallen back, more markedly in non-specialised retail trade than in specialised retail trade.
In trade and repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles, the business climate has slightly weakened again
In October, in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles, the business climate indicator has slightly weakened again. However, at 109, it has remained significantly above its long-term average (100). The balances on general business outlook, expected workforce size and on expected prices have sharply fallen. This decline is partly offset by the rebound in the balances on sales, ordering intentions and recent workforce size. All those balances are above their long-term average.
