The balance of opinion on ordering intentions has sharply bounced back
In September 2019, the balance of opinion of business managers on their ordering intentions has bounced back sharply and has returned above its long-term average. As in the previous month, business managers are more confident about the general business outlook of their sector: the balance of opinion has continued to grow and has remained significantly above its long-term mean. The opinion of business leaders on their past sales, and moreover on their expected sales, have improved after a deterioration in August. The balance of opinion on expected sales has thus regained its long-term average. The balance of opinion concerning stocks has risen in September and has also returned its long-term mean. The balance of expected prices has continued to grow slightly and is above average. The one associated with past prices, bi-monthly, has continued to fall while remaining above its long-term average.

The opinion on past employment has continued to deteriorate, while the opinion on expected employment has improved
In September, fewer business managers than in August have reported having increased their workforce in the last three months. The corresponding balance of opinion has continued to decline, mainly due to the trade and repair of motor vehicles. It has reached its lowest level since October 2009, well below its average. On the other hand, the balance of opinion relative to the expected jobs in the next three months has bounced back, due to the retail trade and the trade and repair of motor vehicle. However, this balance has remained below its long-term average

In retail trade, the business climate has bounced back: the composite indicator has gained six points in September, to 92. It remains below its long-term mean (100). Finally, slightly more retailers than in the previous month plan to increase their prices: the balance of opinion has edged up and stands just above average.
