In November 2018, the sales volume in overall trade fell back (−0.9%) after an increase in October (+2.3%). It fell back in wholesale trade (−1.4% after +3.2% in October) and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.1% after +1.1%). By contrast, it was virtually stable in retail trade (+0.1% after +1.2%).

In November 2018, the sales volume in overall trade fell back (−0.9%) after an increase in October (+2.3%). It fell back in wholesale trade (−1.4% after +3.2% in October) and in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.1% after +1.1%). By contrast, it was virtually stable in retail trade (+0.1% after +1.2%).

The sales volume in overall trade was virtually stable over the last three months

Over the last three months (September to November), the sales volume in overall trade was virtually stable (−0.1%) compared to the previous three months. It decreased in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−1.3%). It was stable in wholesale trade. It rose slightly in retail trade (+0.3%) – it grew in retail trade not in stores (+1.9%) and in non-specialised stores (+0.2%) and it was stable in specialised stores.

The sales volume rose by 1.6% over a year

The sales volume in overall trade grew by 1.6% over a year. It increased markedly in all sectors. It rose by 1.5% in wholesale trade. It also rose in retail trade (+2.1%) – it grew in every subsection : non-specialised stores (+3.5%), specialised stores (+1.1%) and retail trade not in stores (+3.0%). It went up in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.3%).

Downturn in wholesale trade in November

In November 2018, the sales volume in wholesale trade fell back (−1.4% after +3.2% in October). It fell back sharply in agricultural raw materials and live animals (−8.6% after +8.7%), in wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (−2.6% after +4.2%), in information and communication equipment (−5.2% after +2.2%) and in other specialised wholesale (−1.5% after +2.5%). By contrast, it kept increasing for wholesalers on a fee or contract basis (+2.2% after +4.4%).

Decrease in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

In November 2018, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles fell back (−1.1% after +1.1%), especially in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (−3.5% after +2.0%) and in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (−1.4% after +0.9%). The volume was virtually stable for motor vehicles (−0.1% after +0.9%) and kept decreasing in sales, maintenance and repair of motorcycles (−3.4% after −1.3%).

Virtual stability in retail trade

In November 2018, the sales volume in retail trade was virtually stable (+0.1% after +1.2%). It bounced back in retail trade not in stores (+3.3% after −1.2%) and was virtually stable in non-specialised stores (+0.1% after +1.8%). By contrast, it fell back slightly in specialised stores (−0.4% after +1.1%), in particular in other household equipment (−1.7% after +0.6%), in cultural goods (−1.4% after +1.2%) and in information and communication equipment (−1.1% after +1.2%). By contrast, it increased in automotive fuel (+0.8% after +0.1%).

According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should be virtually stable in December 2018 (−0.1%). It should grow by 2.7% year on year.
