In May 2018, the turnover in large-scale food retailing bounced back markedly (+2.5% after −3.2% in April). The sales recovered strongly in food products (+3.6% after −4.8%) and fell back in non-food products (−0.4% after +0.8%). Sales of automotive fuel gathered pace (+2.7% after +0.4%).
Sales bounced back in supermarkets (+3.6% after −1.9%) as well as in hypermarkets (+1.4% after −3.1%).

Increase over the last three months
Over the last three months (March to May), the turnover in large-scale food retailing went up compared to the previous three months (+1.6%). Over that period, sales increased markedly in automotive fuel (+2.3%) and in food products (+1.5%). Sales in non-food products increased more moderately (+0.5%). Turnover increased both in supermarkets (+1.5%) and in hypermarkets (+1.3%).
Growth of 2.5% over a year
The turnover of the past three months in large-scale food retailing rose by 2.5% compared to the same period one year earlier. Sales grew in food products (+1.7%) whereas they decreased in non-food products (−1.7%). By contrast, sales of automotive fuel surged (+10.6%). Year on year, sales increased more in supermarkets (+3.2%) than in hypermarkets (+2.1%).
