In May 2018, producer prices in industry recovered (+0.6%) Industrial Producer and Import Price Indices - May 2018

On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry recovered in May 2018 (+0.6% after −0.6% in April). Year over year, they accelerated (+2.5% after +1.4% in April).

Producer prices in French industry: +0.6% in May 2018

On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry recovered in May 2018 (+0.6% after −0.6% in April). Year over year, they accelerated (+2.5% after +1.4% in April).

FRENCH MARKET: +0.6%

In May 2018, French producer prices in industry for the French market picked up (+0.6% after −0.8% in April), due to the rise in prices of refined petroleum products.

Stong rise in prices of refined petroleum products

In May, the prices of refined petroleum products went up for the third consecutive month (+8.5 after +9.4% in April and +1.9% in March), in the wake of the oil price. The increase was especially marked for gas oil and super-grade fuels. Year over year, prices of refined petroleum products sped up (+36.2% after +16.3% in April).

Virtualy stability in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water

In May, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water prices were almost unchanged (−0.1%) after the seasonal fall in April (−5.9%). Year over year, they gathered pace (+3.0% after +1.9% in April).

Slight increase in food prices

In May, food prices recovered slightly (+0.2% after −0.2%), due to the rise of prices of dairy and cheese products and prepared feeds for farm animals. Year over year, food product prices grew slightly (+0.3% after +0.1% in April).

Rise of prices of “other industrial products”

In May, the prices of “other industrial products” accelerated slightly (+0.4% after +0.1%). Prices of chemicals and chemical products grew by 1.1% (after 0.0%), in the wake of the oil and raw materials prices. Year over year, prices of “other industrial products” increased again, by 1.8%, after +1.5% in April.

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.7%

In May 2018, the producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets rebounded (+0.7% after −0.2% in April), due to the rise of refined petroleum products gathered pace (+11.7%). Prices of basic metals took off also (+1.8%), in the wake of the raw materials prices. Year over year, export prices of industrial products went up by 1.1% (after +0.1%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +1.4% in May

In May 2018, the import prices of industrial products rose for the third consecutive month (+1.4% after +0.5% in April and +0.2 in March), due to the rising dollar and raw materials prices. Prices of basic metals increased again (+1.5% after +2.0%), due to the prices of base metals on world markets. Year over year, import prices accelerated clearly (+3.2% after +1.0%).
