In November 2017, the turnover in large-scale food retailing bounced back sharply (+2.4% after −1.8% in October). The sales recovered strongly in non-food products (+4.8% after −4.1%). They also picked up in food products (+1.2% after −0.9%). After a downturn in October (−2.8%), sales of automotive fuel recovered (+3.9%).
Sales picked up in supermarkets (+1.4% after −0.6%) and still more markedly in hypermarkets (+2.5% after −2.2%).

Increase over the last three months
Over the last three months (September to November), the turnover in large-scale food retailing went up compared to the previous three months (+0.9%). Over that period, sales increased markedly in automative fuel (+5.4%). They were stable in food products and rose slightly in non-food products (+0.4%). Turnover grew in supermarkets (+1.4%) and hypermarkets (+0.9%).
Growth of 1.0% over a year
The turnover of the past three months in large-scale food retailing rose by 1.0% compared to the same period a year earlier. Sales grew sharply in non-food products (+2.0%) whereas they decreased modestly in food products (−0.8%). Sales of automotive fuel surged (+7.9%), boosted by the upturn in fuel prices. Year on year, sales increased more in supermarkets (+1.5%) than in hypermarkets (+0.5%).

The variation in the turnover of large-scale food-retailing for October 2017 has been revised downwards by 0.2 points to −1.8% instead of −1.6% previously released.
