In December 2016, the number of business births for all entreprises fell back after a rebound in November (−3.0% after +4.5%, seasonally and working-day adjusted). Start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs diminished (−2.7%) as well as micro-entrepreneurs' registrations (−3.4%).

The raw amount of births added up in the fourth quarter increased compared to the same period one year before (+2.0%). This rise was the result of company births (+5.0%) and sole proprietorship start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs (+3.0%). Micro-entrepreneurs' registrations went down (−1.0%). Transportation and business support activities remained the sectors that contributed the most to the overall rise1.

+5.5% over 2016 as a whole
The raw number of business start-ups totted up during the last twelve months kept rising (+5.5% year-on-year after +5.7% in November and +4.7% in October). This dynamism was due to the surge in births of sole proprietorships excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs (+9.9%) and of companies (+9.8%). On the other hand self-managed micro-entrepreneurs' registrations decreased slightly (−0.3% after −1.4% in November and −4.3% in October).
Two business set-ups out of five are self-managed micro-entrepreneurs' registrations
In December 2016, micro–entrepreneurs' registrations amounted to 40.2% of the businesses set up over the twelve last months. One year before, the share was 42.2%.

Revisions
The variation in the overall number of business births in November 2016 has been raised by 0.1 points to +4.5% due to the update of the SA parameters and the revision of raw data.
