In September 2014, the sales volume decreased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motocycles (–1.3%) and in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (–0.8%). It declined slightly in accommodation and food service activities (–0.3%) and levelled off in household services.
Except for indices from Emagsa survey, every index in this issue is in volume (tax excluded) and seasonally and working-day adjusted (SA-WDA). The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In September 2014, the sales volume decreased in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motocycles (–1.3%) and in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles (–0.8%). It declined slightly in accommodation and food service activities (–0.3%) and levelled off in household services.

Decline in the retail trade except for motor vehicles and motorcycles
In September, the sales volume in retail trade except for motor vehicles and motorcycles fall (–0.8%) after a bounce back of +1.1% in August. According to early estimates, it is likely to decrease a little less in October 2014 (–0,6%).
The sales volume fell significantly in specialised stores (–2.1%) either in retail sale of other goods (clothings, pharmacy, etc.) (–3.3%), or in retail sale of other household equipments (–2.6%), or in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (–1.4%). The decline was also registered in retail sale not in stores as sale by catalogue (–2.6%). On the contrary, it went on growing in non specialised stores (+1.6%).
The sales volume rose in the retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles over the last three months (q-o-q) (+0.5%) as year on year (+1.0%).

Fall in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
In September, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased again 1.3% after –0.2% in August). It dropped in sale of motor vehicles (–1.9%) and it was nearly stable in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (–0.1%).
The sales volume grew over the last three months (+1.1%) and year on year (+0.9%).

Slight decline in accommodation and food service activities
The sales volume in accommodation and food service fell slightly back in September (–0.3%) after a large bounce in august (+1.7%). It decreased in restaurants and fast food services (–1.5%) but it increased in accommodation (+1.3%) and in event catering and other food services (+0.9%). It was nearly flat in beverage serving activities (–0.1%).
The sales volume of the whole sector levelled off over the last three months and plunged year on year (–2.0%).
Stability in household services
The sales volume in household services was steady in September after two months of increase. It declined in other personal service activities (hairdressing, funeral services, laundry, etc.) (–1.0%) and in repair of computers and personal and household goods (–0.5%) but it grew in sports activities and amusement, in creative, arts and entertainment activities (+1.1%) and in gambling and betting activities (+0.7%).
The sales volume in household services improved sglithly over the last three months (+0.3%) but went back year on year (–0.5%).
Revisions
The change for August was revised by +0.2 point in accommodation food service activities and and by +0.1 point in household services. Over the same month, it was unchanged in trade sectors.
Monthly survey on large-scale food retailing in October
Turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased in October (–1.9%), either for food products (–2.8%), non-food products (–0.9%) or automotive fuel (–1.4%).
