Household Consumption in 2025 Household Consumption Slowed despite a Sharp Deceleration in Prices
In 2025, household final consumption expenditure slowed in volume (+0.4%, after +0.8% in 2024), despite significantly lower price increases than the previous year (+0.8% after +2.2%). The year 2025 was marked by a clear slowdown in consumer spending prices: prices fell for energy (-3.0% after +12.4%) and fuels (-4.4% after -4.6%); they slowed for food products (+1.1% after +1.3%) and for restaurants and accommodation services (+2.4% after +3.2%). Some food expenditures continued to decline in volume, such as meat and fish, as did purchases of vehicles and furniture. On the other hand, the increase in service consumption continued, particularly spending on restaurants and accommodation, which was up by more than 20% compared to 2019.
The purchasing power of household disposable income decreased by 0.4% (-0.7% per consumption unit): gross disposable income in current euros slowed significantly (+0.5%) and its growth was lower than that of prices. The household savings rate declined slightly, settling at 17.9%, which remained higher than before the crisis.
