Insee PremièreGeneral Government Accounts in 2025 Deficit Declined as Revenue rose and Expenditure Slowed

In 2025, the general government deficit stood at 152.5 billion euros, down from 169.1 billion euros in 2024, representing 5.1% of the gross domestic product, down from 5.8%. Revenues grew more than in 2024, and at a faster rate than economic activity. Expenditure slowed due to the decline in energy-related expenditures and lower inflation. Public debt stood at 115.7% of GDP, up from 112.6% in 2024.
