Salaries in the hospital civil service in 2024 The average monthly net salary rose by 0.7% in real terms
In 2024, a hospital civil service (HCS) employee earned on average 2,896 euros net per month in full‑time equivalent terms. This average included all employees of public hospitals and medico‑social institutions such as nursing homes, whether they were civil servants, contract workers or medical staff. In nominal terms (current euros), the average net salary increased by 2.7% compared to 2023. After accounting for inflation (+2.0% in 2024, after +4.9% in 2023), the average net salary rose by 0.7% in real terms, after falling by 0.9% in 2023.
The average net salary of civil servants increased by 1.0% in real terms. This increase was mainly driven by category A staff, whose average net salary rose by 1.2%. The average net salary of non‑civil servants increased by 0.8% in real terms, while that of medical staff fell by 0.3%.
In 2024, salary disparities between the highest and lowest salaries in the HCS increased, while the gender pay gap decreased. Women’s net wages were, on average, 19.1% lower than men’s, a gap down by 0.6 points in one year. However, among comparable profiles, this gender pay gap stood at 4.7%, up by 0.2 points compared to 2023.
Among employees working all year round in 2023 and 2024 for the same employer and with the same work share, representing seven out of ten employees in the HCS, the average net salary increased by 1.4% in real terms.
