In 2024, 3% of marriages were between same-sex partners
In 2024, 6,750 same-sex marriages were celebrated, accounting for 3% of all marriages. This proportion has remained stable since 2015. These marriages are divided almost equally between man‑man couples and woman‑woman couples.
Man-man couples who marry display different characteristics compared to woman‑woman couples or man‑woman couples. One in ten man-man couples who married in 2024 reside in Paris, which is three times higher than for woman‑woman couples or man‑woman couples. Man‑man couples who marry are more likely to live and marry outside their department of birth (55%, compared with 44% of woman‑woman couples and 43% of man-woman couples). Age gaps between spouses are more pronounced for man‑man couples (7 years on average, compared with 4.8 years for woman‑woman couples and 4 years for man‑woman couples).
