Compared to 2014, slightly fewer children experienced material deprivation in 2024
In 2024, in metropolitan France, one in three children aged 1 to 15 experienced at least one form of deprivation from a list of fifteen necessary everyday items.
For example, more than one in ten children lived in a household that could not afford to adequately heat their home. Similarly, more than one in ten children did not go on holiday for financial reasons.
8.5% of children experienced at least three forms of deprivation and were therefore considered to be in a situation of “child‑specific material deprivation". This proportion fell slightly in ten years: in 2014, 9.0% of children were affected.
In 2024, the level of deprivation among children was significantly higher in single‑parent families and in large families.
