Jonathan Danikowski (Insee)

The network of publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations totalled 126,000 charging points in May 2025, an increase of 69% compared to 14 months earlier. The growth was particularly strong for ultra‑fast charging, with nearly 9,000 additional points. The network was particularly concentrated in areas dedicated to economic activity and in tourist municipalities.

In cities, the network was already dense and still expanding rapidly. Installations were more frequently located in public car parks, with a higher proportion of slow charging points. In large cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants, there were on average 23 charging points per 100 electric vehicles, with values ranging from 9 to 40.
