The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games influenced metropolitan tourism dynamics in the third quarter of 2024. The number of interregional or international trips made by people living in metropolitan France decreased by 1.9% over three months compared with 2023, and this decline reached 3.8% during the Games. Residents of the Paris region adjusted their holiday habits: fewer left the Île‑de‑France during the Games, and many of those who left postponed their departure to enjoy the festivities and the first competitions, delaying the peak departure date by a few days. At the same time, the Île‑de‑France region saw an increase in visitors from other parts of the country during the Olympic Games. The audience that travelled specifically for the event was younger than average and spent more, partly due to an increase in prices. Residents of the Paris region, as well as residents of other regions, also reduced their cultural outings during this period – museum visits (-23%) and theatrical performances (-18%). However, a complementary cultural offering, focused on exceptional events related to the Games, was able to attract audiences.
