Second estimates for the 2024 Agricultural Accounts Crops down, fall in products and inputs prices
In 2024, according to the second estimates for the agriculture account, agricultural
production fell by 8.8% at current prices: the fall in prices came with a drop in
volume.
Crop production fell by 10.0% in volume; unfavourable weather conditions strongly
affected both wine and field crop production. Moreover, crop prices fell by 6.4%,
leading to a sharp 15.7% drop in crop production value. Animal production fell by
0.9% in value. Having risen sharply in previous years, prices dropped (-1.7%), more
than compensating for a very slight rebound in volume (+0.7%).
Intermediate consumption fell by 4.7% in value. The significant reduction in prices
allowed for a recovery in volume. As in the previous year, value added in the agricultural
sector is likely to fall, as production is expected to decline more than intermediate
consumption. Overall, gross value added at factor cost per worker in real terms is
expected to fall by 13.0%, following a 9.9% drop in 2023. It had risen by 8.7% in
2021, then by 15.3% in 2022.
