The market services account in 2024 Market services remained the main source of GDP growth
In 2024, value added (VA) in non-financial market services continued to grow in volume
terms, but slowed slightly (+2.3%, after +2.8% in 2023). Market services remained
the most dynamic activity, and their share of GDP reached a high of 37.5%.
Within market services, output and VA slowed in 2024 in the majority of activities,
mainly as a result of the contraction in domestic demand from businesses and government.
Arts, entertainment and market recreational services were particularly dynamic in
2024, driven by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, while real estate activities stagnated
in volume terms due to the slump in the property market. This also penalised investment
in market services through transfer taxes.
Household consumption of services grew slightly more strongly than in 2023. The balance
of foreign trade in services returned to its highest levels in 2019 and 2021.
